St. Matthew's Core Values
Grace
We are a community of faith grounded in God’s Grace; forgiven, loved and freed.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not the result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
Worship
As followers of Jesus we gather in thanksgiving and in times of sorrow to praise God through worship, song, prayer and sacrament.
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD
Psalm 98:4-6
Evangelism
We are led by the spirit to tell the story of Jesus.
But I do not count my life of any value to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God's grace
Acts 20:24
Creation
We are committed to caring for God’s creation.
O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens…what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet.
You have set your glory above the heavens…what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet.
Psalm 8:1, 4, 6
Outreach
We are strengthened by God in times of crisis and hopelessness to serve and provide comfort beyond our doors and into the world.
You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again.
You will increase my honor, and comfort me once again
You will increase my honor, and comfort me once again
Psalm 71:20-21
